3 Common Moving Myths

If you've never moved before, it might be challenging for you to know what to expect. There are so many moving myths circulating that it's easy to get the wrong information when you do try to find out what you can expect from your next big move. Here are three of the most common ones to be aware of.

Myth #1: You Have to Stay with the Moving Truck

This is definitely not the case. After a long day of packing and overseeing the move, you might want to check into a hotel en route to your new home for a relaxing evening before tackling the next stage of the move, which is the unpacking.

Your moving company truck can typically go ahead and get started on the road toward its destination—your new house. You don't need to stay with the truck on the road or even take the same route. The only thing you need to do is make sure someone is at the destination to greet the drivers and show them what rooms the boxes go in.

Myth #2: You Shouldn't Pay for Moving Boxes

If you can get quality, standard-sized moving boxes for free, then by all means do so. But trying to pack and protect your belongings in grocery boxes, leftover boxes from merchandise, or old, beaten-up boxes that have been through multiple moves is a big mistake. First, the box may not withstand the weight of its contents plus the weight of any boxes that are stacked on top. Second, having random-sized boxes makes moving them much less efficient, and that will cost you in time in the long run.

Invest in standard small, medium and large boxes from a hardware store or moving company. Purchase specialty boxes for items like mirrors, artwork, and clothing. This is worth it in terms of security for your possessions and in terms of the ease of moving and stacking like-sized boxes.

Myth #3: Moving Day Is Always Packed with Stress

Many people think that moving day is going to be chaotic and stressful no matter what. In reality, moving day is probably one of the least stressful parts of a move. The work of packing, which takes much longer than loading your possessions into the moving truck, is much more challenging. When you choose the right moving company, the moving day goes smoothly. In many cases, you can relax as the movers take over making sure all your things get loaded into the vehicle. If you don't want to do the hard work of packing, your moving company can even do that for you too.

Moving doesn't have to be such a mysterious enterprise. Get in contact with a moving company such as Wheaton World Wide Moving in your area to see just how smooth and stress free moving can be.
